WHAT SERVICES
AND SUPPORTS
DO WE PROVIDE?

Empowerment

Resilience

What percentage of people are resilient?

According to the Cigna Resilience Index 2020 U.S. Report, only about 40% of adults surveyed are considered highly resilient and able to recover from challenges and cope with adversity. Individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities have difficulty in recovering quickly from adversity since often they lack the skills to do so. Our services empower individuals with IDD to use their strengths and newly learned skills to overcome their challenges- they are empowered to make positive life changes. The Empowering Foundation assists by providing a "hand up" to help individuals with IDD to develop a long-term plan to resolve issues of homelessness, food insecurity, and life transitions.

THE EMPOWERING FOUNDATION
PROVIDES CRITICAL ASSISTANCE & SUPPORT

Emergency Food & Hygiene Assistance

We provide emergency assistance to individuals who have urgent food or hygiene needs. Individuals are required to fill out an Emergency Assistance Application and will be contacted by Empowering Foundation staff once the application is received.

Short-Term Priority Transportation

We provide transportation assistance to individuals that have immediate need, but are not currently linked with their county developmental disability board.

Financial Assistance funds are limited, and individuals must meet certain requirements for distribution.

Supportive
Housing Services

This program provides assistance to individuals who are homeless or at risk for homelessness to help them secure permanent housing. Fundraising Activities Support Innovation

ASSISTIVE/ADAPTIVE
TECHNOLOGY

The Empowering Foundation provides financial support to individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities, not linked to a county Developmental Disability Board, for assistive or adaptive technology. Funding is not only for technology but to provide training for individuals on how to use existing technology to experience more independence and improve their overall qualify of life.

There is currently a state initiative to increase the use of technology in the provision of services and supports to those with IDD. This includes adaptive technology and remote supports to increase an individual’s capacity for greater independence.

ADVANCES IN
TECHNOLOGY

For people without disabilities, technology makes things easier. For people with disabilities, technology makes things possible.
